    turn-key wiring solutions

I have a turn-key mill that I want to take apart. The factory wiring for servos I'm assuming is shielded, correct?

I'm thinking of just taking a snip and cutting straight through... And then adding some male/female plugs for future if it ever has to be worked on again.

Any thoughts to this? Would adding plugs introduce noise? Any plug recommendations?

You might be much better off by snipping the ends at the electronics after taking some pictures and then carefully coiling the wires up with appropriate labels. That way you will have pigtail tells at the connections for color and NOT be introducing troubles. The coils can be made safe to the respective unit and stay with servo or limit housing and safely ouit of the way.

If it's a shielded cable (I don't have a mill like yours) make sure you connect the shield through the connectors like you would one of the individual wires. You want the shield to ground back to your electronics so you don't get any noise issues.

I've done what you have mentioned. There is a school of thought that says, "Don't cut a perfectly good cable." But, my take is it depends on what you want to do.

Depending on the cable, if it has foil or/and a braided shield or an unjacketed wire, wrap that up and crimp it into one pin and stick it into your connector housing. A little shrink tubing around it before you crimp it is a good idea because you don't want it fraying and then contacting one of the other wires.

Good luck, if it's not clear or you have questions, fire back and maybe I can 'help.'

I've never seen a turn-key, can you post a photo or three of what the wiring looks like?

If you cut the cable, is it possible to replace it with Molex or similar connectors to make future repairs easier?
