I've got a new ATC spindle designed that uses BT-30 tooling...I finally found somebody that will make the parts I need that fits in my budget. I'm hoping to get parts made within the next couple months.
I'm curious.
I googled and did not find anything recent on this.
After all this years, what have people come up with in terms of ATC for the IH?
I'm really looking for totally hands-off operation. Is there something that perhaps takes advantage of the 30 taper and figures tool height automatically?
Thanks!

Cool, post some pictures/videos when it is working![]()
Hi Ed,
What do you mean by atc? Its spindle w/atc or umbrella like tool w/12 tools? Maybe u can use tormach style atc spindle?
I am waiting for thing like that from Syil or Tormach but never come up. Last week I found in here Majestic Machinery Automation item #5 and #6. But I never used it. I plan to use one or maybe wait for cheaper one.
For inspiration

Hi Ed,
Thats good inspiration, but its out of budget to buy one. Do you plan to make one or to buy one. If you want to make one, its not diy level, alot of hitech and money. I plan to use the one the same as majestic machinery one. Or waiting for syil or tormach!
I have been thinking about different designs and there seems to be several hiccups. Cost is a big one. Just a power drawbar, the Syil one, goes for $1200 or so. And that is a relatively simple mechanism. To add a performant ATC on top of that might be 3-4 times more (for a commercial product). May that is the hurdle with Syil's and Tormach's changers. It is probably not that easy to make something that works well and at a price point where it has a market and allows you to make a living. That plus the size of the thing.
And it seems that both would use the Tormach Tool System which, may work well for a power drawbar, but is not ATC friendly. And if you go cat30 instead of R8 your market gets much smaller.
Like I said...do some research and you'd be amazed at what some guys are doing.
Tormach type with DIY carousel...
