I live in the state of Wisconsin, USA. This state produces many sizes of IC engines. Briggs & Stratton, Kohler, BRP (Outboard Marine, Evinrude), Mercury Marine, Chrysler Engine Plant, etc.

In the large category Waukesha Engine and Fairbanks-Morse.

So, there tends to be a lot of "motor-heads" around here, but that Sulzer is a monster.

Not as complex as those race engines though. Good stuff!!!

That is amazing to read through. I've always been fascinated by those cutaway drawings in the car magazines. To have some of the original artists participate in that thread is great reading. Thanks for the link.

I bet there are the odd few LANZ bulldog tractors kicking around in wisconsin.
I plan to visit the states, some day. (brickyard, shuttle launch, timber bridges)
You folks have nice countryside.

My apologies, In my list of engine manufacturers I forgot one of the better known; Harley-Davidson. They also own Buehl and an Italian co., M V Augusta (I think that's the name).

DL, You might want to take in the Milwaukee Mile and Road America (4+ mile road racing course).

Smokey Yunick's garage would be cool, but the east coast and heartland looks like the best motorcycle touring. Cooler climate, not big on hollywood and vegas.
Although, the west coast has glamis in california.
That place has history for VW nuts.
Those VW guys are all machine shop savy to get HP from those toy car motors.

No offense to the east coast and heartland, but that's thousands of miles that looks the same. If you want picturesque scenerey that changes, you might consider Arizona (not that I'm biased ). In this one state, we have the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, Sedona, Saguaro cacti, Lake Powell and lots of elevation changes. There are sane dunes in the SW corner of the state where people ride their quads, snow skiing in the north end of the state in winter, and mountain forests along the eastern border with New Mexico. In the summer, you just stay in the northen part of the state at higher elevation where it doesn't get hot. In the winter, keep to the south.

Does anybody know of a thread on the zone about 'hit + miss' motors?

I wonder if anybody does scale tractors, all of that rudimentary engineering would be easy to scale down and has a beauty of it's own.

D.L, start one. There's a lot of interest in them around here (WIS.). I didnt mention the Lawson, Lawton, Lawson-Lawton etc. were also made here. Also, farm tractors like Case, Allis-Chalmers etc.

There are numerous engine, farm tractor, Steam tractor and oil burner demonstrations and shows here in the summer months.

Also, antique and vintage sports car races at the previously mentioned Road America track.

Summer is shorter at this latitude (43.1 N). A lot of activity is happening in short order.

Besides that, we have the Green Bay Packers. A familiy from OZ spent last summer and the entire NFL season here. Dedicated fans.lol
