If he wanted gears then the adjustable ones would be vernier type ala the last ones I used on a Pinto engine were "vernier pulleys" if it is belt drive then it is a pulley :shrug: if it is indeed a gear then it will be in contact with a similar item ie ford Kent engine had a chain driven camshaft with sprockets but you couldnt put a belt on it the Cologne indeed had gears one sacrificial made from MDF (well it seemed like it) hth

| Blower Pulleys, Gilmer belt sprockets, Timming Belt Pulleys, whew..any way make sure you have the pulleys (sprockets, gilmer ect ) HARD ANODIZED prior to using. Then buff lightly to "blend" the little mountains of the anodized down. Alum won't last long ( even 7075 )due to the cam bounce ( NC Cams could explain better about the inhearant vibrations a cam prduces due to valve spring pressures ) with out a good hard anodize..
