HorsePower Question

Hi, I was looking at a rc engine and the spec's beside hp said:

11 PS @5900 rpm

Im wondering what the 'PS' means (Stands For) and if its the same as 11 horsepower or a different measurement?

Thanks.

PS is short for PferdeStarke or the German translation of horse power, in Frogland its CV for Cheval Vapeur. Niether are an exact James Watt horsepower. PS is rounded to 75kg and metres rather than 550lbs and feet. PS is about 98.2% of a 'real' horsepower.

Edit; hah, typing too slow again, Gerry beat me to it..

Hi devin,

I checked my laptop but didn't bookmark it because it wasn't suitable to my needs. Tried to track it down to no avail. Im very sorry.

If I come across it again I'll post it here. At the link below you'll find a Fuji Imvac BT-86 EI Twin Cylinder for $779.99. Its quite a bit smaller but still putting out 7BHP at max rpm. Might be some help to you. Sorry again.

No problem, I was just curious to see an engine putting out that much power.
Thanks for the link.

So you were impressed by the idea of an 11hp model engine eh?...want to see a 32Hp model engine?......no?.......ok I'll show you anyway

http://www.justengines.unseen.org/evo.htm

And the Evo Website: http://www.evo-engines.com/index.php (Nice engines....Us Europeans are a clever bunch! )

This one is a very similar design to the 11Hp I mentioned above but a lot cheaper:
http://www.justengines.unseen.org/mv700p.htm

I think the 11Hp one may have been a scale replica of a full size engine, thus the high cost.

:-o..oooooo...that is sweet. How much did that cost and how long did it take to build does ayone know? And what power is it, and what power is the full size one..and...and....cool! Thats an art. I can't believe that people can actually build these with their own two hands in their own shop. :Thumbs up:
