Anyone here built/building smaller version of Webster? My previous project was Ringbom-type Stirling engine, and now I have started to build Webster, that has 7mm(0.275") bore, and 10mm(0.393") stroke. Base, supporting columns, crankshaft and connecting rod are made so far. Gears are from my junkbox, and are ready-made. Needless to say, that I have to make spark plug also. It's going to have about 3mm(0.118") diameter, and M3 thread. Insulator will be made of teflon. Making spark plug(s) is totally new subject to me, and definitely trial-and-error process. Nevertheless, interesting to try. Igniter will be piezo-operated to eliminate coil and/or battery, something like Maier's engines use. Instead of venturi and needle, I'm going to use petrol vapour carburetor. Last edited by sorveltaja; 08-30-2008 at 04:06 PM. |

Here is some sketching: ![]() and pieces made so far: ![]() The block that will be holding valves, exhaust pipe and carburetor, is vertically slightly oversized, and simplified so that it is made from one piece, instead of three-piece that mentioned in original drawings. That block has already M4 thread in it, so that valve guides can be screwed into it. Does it work, I can't say until I've made some more parts... ![]() Other modification is to make cylinder that has brass or aluminum cooling fins, and iron cylinder liner, instead of making whole thing totally from iron.
