How small are we talking? The big holdup would be the sparkplugs. If someone is crazy enough I have a design for a #6-56 plug and also have the insulators done.

Why would you bother when you can get these for about $10 each in quantity. Work well too.

DL Engines and Hobby Australia - Spark Plug 1/4-32 (Fits glow plug)

DL Engines and Hobby Australia - Spark Plug 1/4-32 (Fits glow plug)

Because 1/4-32's are WAY too big. Would not fit into the cylinder and would look huge on the engine. #8's look big enough as it is. The design calls for a 8-40 plug. 6-56 plugs are not much smaller.

    1/4 - .250
    #8 - .164
    #6 - .138

    im awwwwwstrawlian...wtf is a #6?

going with thou, at 138 im assuming its equivalent to about... 3.5mm!

so i guess you could manage a 3/4 scale without too much ...ugliness...

    yes? no?

lets see, cube root of 50 is...um... tap tap tap... 3.... wheres my calculator?

    3.685. (i did see 50cc somewhere didnt i?)

    so 3/4 of 3.685...

    2.76375

    cubed is...

    21 or so cc?

    did i do that right?

would that even be possible? about 2.5 cc a cylinder!

actually, 3/4 of the 164 or #8 would be 123 thou, so #6 would be a tad oversize still... is there a #5?

may be needing to invest in a straitjacket!

Yes, I am well aware of what you are trying to achieve. I do know what a #6 size refers to also. The reality is that some things, sparkplugs included have limitations on the amount of "scaling" they can handle and still work efficiently enough without being troublesome.

Well the bore and stroke are .625 (15.8mm)
    So that is 25.1 cc

3/4 scale would be a bore and stroke of .469 (11.9mm)
    So 10.6 cc

Yes I would get that straight jacket ready.

That's very true. Also consider that an RC ignition can jump a 1/2 inch gap so controlling where the arc goes can be an issue. The smaller the plug the closer the tip gets to the block so ignition boots become a nessessity. If you look at any model engine the plugs never look scale under about 1/3rd scale.

you mean it IS 25 cc?

    ok...small enough already!

where did i get 50cc from then?

hmmm. revise maths. substitute 25, and yep. there you go. 10.6 cc. times by 6, poke some decimal places... .636 cu"

definitely bordering on the limits of practicality. not only is there the spark factor, but im fairly certain you cant shrink a molecule of petrol... or air. surely atomisation / combustion becomes an issue at such sizes too? then again a cox .010 manages to run...

but 1/2" BxS still sounds possible.... that would be... no! no more maths! give or take, 16 cc or a whole fat cubic inch

how about diesel? bypass the spark problem and replace it with another?

    sorry. ill stop now

Steve, First of all Awesome job! This is my first post, even though I have been watching it for a long time. I have been a machinist for over 20 years and finally got the money to build my own shop at home. I have been tring to get in touch with you because I would love to have the plans for this engine for my first project. Please let me know and I will send the money right away!

Hello Stumpy! I sent you an Email but i will post the info here for anybody else who might have an interest.

Plans can be purchased via Paypal by sending money to pross396@wowway.com

After payment is confirmed I simply email the PDF to you. I send it to the
email provided by Paypal. If you want it sent somewhere else leave me a note.
Your first and last name will be saved as well as the address. If you ever have a
problem like a hard drive failure and you have no backup, simply email me with
your info and I'll send the latest version. Name and Email address need to match
so remember where you had me send them.

The engine is $50USD and includes the engine, display base, radiator, and fuel tank.
There is a total of 68 pages in a single PDF file.

The blower is $25USD and includes the blower, intake manifold, balancer modifications.
There is a total of 27 pages in a single PDF file. I have not yet built the blower but
    I have made prototypes.

The Little Demon V8 is designed to be a bench top display engine. It should not be used
to power any type of RC vehicle because the cooling system is only adequate for short
runs. It should only be run using gasoline + 5% WD40 and should never be run on nitro.

    Thank you!
    Steve

    WELL DONE STEVE !
Yup,,I'm a newbie,,starting with nothing but the desire to , one day, be able to design and build a bottom end to take 2 x 250/4 top ends (bike)in a 90 degree V cofiguration.
This thread is an inspiration to me,,,,

    Numbnutz,
    Now that's a neat idea! Just imagine 500cc, 32 valves and 19,000RPM!
No doubt you've seen the (Hyabusa based) Radical SR8's and the Yamaha based RST V8's. Probably my favourite is the N.Z. made Synergy V8 based on ZX14 's.

Default Can't view photos of last post

Can someone please tell me why I can't view the photos of the last post? I can view all photos in the other posts (and in other threads) but not this one. Is it only me that can't view them? Thanks for your help.

    Skippy,

The reason why you can not see the images in the post prior to yours is because "RegiR4Bur" is posting spam and hopefully the moderators block his ip address. It is getting very frustrating sorting through a load of garbage every evening.

Thanks Jeff for shedding light on that for me. I thought I had something wacky with my system but luckily that's not the case.

Small yes; but smallest? Article title reads a little different from summary. Impressive still:

World's smallest supercharged four-stroke V8 engine now in production - Images

Now the smallest (quarter-scale) blown V8 gasoline engine in commercial production is being turned out by Conley Precision Engines to power.

Red to red and black to black, or it's ashes to ashes and dust to dust.
