    Default Hyundai Hit30s - Siemens 840C

    G'day All,

Got a problem with a Hyundai Hit30s Lathe with a Siemens 840C control.
The machine had not been used for a while and when it was turned on again a week or so back, the memory backup battery was flat.
The tech guy apparently did a re-install of data from the machines own backup which got it up and running again but now it has an issue with thread cutting.
For some reason it seems to advance the pitch about 0.5mm each pass when thread cutting so instead of a single pitch thread you end up with a multi-pitch tapered looking thread.
Also, each time an M19 is cycled or the spindle orient button is pressed, the spindle orientate to a different position.
    Anyone got any ideas?
    Thanks.

    Regards,
    Dave.

I have 2 Hit30's that run Siemans 840D. Both were bought used. When I went to for a pre-buy inspection on the older one(1999),I noticed that the switch on the spindle was replaced.Part# 6FX2001-8AA05 R6/B3126M.The shop foreman told me that they were having trouble with rigid tapping.I assume that since this switch sits atop a toothed reluctor ring,It must have something to do with position.Hope this info can help you. Also try siemans

    Thanks Ted,

The switch is working fine so I don't think that is a problem.
I have also noticed that the spindle does not seem to be running at the correct speed. For example I set the spindle running at 60 RPM and counted the revolutions while timing 60 seconds. the spindle only seems to be doing 50 RPM.
The machine was running fine before the battery issue.

    Regards,
    Dave.

Is it possible some parameter was loaded wrong when the tech reloaded all the info? Maybe the spindle drive encoder? We don't have any good techs around here that I could ask,But I can check my parameters against yours if that would help.Let me know if there is anything I can do. Good Luck!

    G'day Ted,

Yes, that was my guess, but to be honest, I don't know where to start looking.
    Any advice appreciated though!

    Regards,
    Dave.

Use the Instruction sheet I posted below. If you already now how far off you are in X,start at line 6 and change the value in T_EYE_X (1 or 2) according to the instructions.
It's a good idea to record the parameters for the tool eye before you begin so you have a base starting point. It may take a few attempts to get the perfect value but it isn't hard to do.
    Thanks

My control is an 840D so it must be different from the 840C. I don't have anything that says "Probe Dimensions" [X: Radios] Nothing even close.
    Sorry

From our 15s/18s which uses the 840C control, try the following

    Press "Menu Select"
    Press "Diagnosis"
    Press "Password"
    Type in the password "1111"
    Press Yellow Input button
    Press "Set"
    Press "Start-up"
    Press "Machine Data"
    Press "Cycle MD"

At the bottom of the page will be the parameters you're after.
    1020 = Z Plus, 1021 = Z Minus
    1022 = X Plus, 1023 = X Minus

According to my note you adjust this figure by half the difference between the programmed size & the actual machine sized. If turning the outside, if the turned diameter is 0.5mm oversize then increase 1022 by 0.25mm, If boring & the bored size is 0.5mm smaller than the programmed size then decrease 1023 by 0.25mm. I always write the original figure down so if I make a mistake I can go back close to where it should be.

Press the "Page-Up" button the arrow button on the left hand end right below the display
Press "NCKPO Power Off) this will save the changes & power the control off & then back on again
Wait for the control to restart
    Press "Power-On"
    Turn dial to "Ref"
Press the "Home buttons to reference the machine
Remeasure the tools using the tool eye & you should be good to go

Thank you for your reply. I will try it. But after posting my question here I got hold of Hyundai service manual.
    1. You need one known tool, set it manually, cut and measure.
    2. Press tool eye calibration, probe down, and touch probe with that known tool. Observe that probe dimensions change.
    3. Select manual tool measurement and touch all your similar tools.
    4. For internal tools same principle applies, known id tool, tool eye calibration, touch probe,.

Hope it helps to someone in future.

    Tom
