220817 shields appear to be in stock at Hypertherm.....we have a same day shipping policy if orders from our distributors are called in by 3 PM eastern time. If your distributor ordered them for you from Hypertherm....they should have arrived in a couple of days. I would double check with your distributor...likely the order was not placed yet.

If you go to the Hypertherm | Plasma Cutters | Plasma Cutting Equipment | Metal Cutting Equipment site and click on "where to buy" you can locate the local distributors....these parts should be in stock at many locations.

Please contact me directly if you cannot resolve this issue...and I will get our local Rep to make some calls for you. jim.colt@hypertherm.com

    Dear Jim,

i am sort of confused right now. See, I was browsing the hypermaxonline.com (i believe they are a distributor of hypertherm) website when I found the 220817 shield picture not the same as the one I am using. The picture shows a shield with steps while the shield I have been using is just a cylinder with a cone at the end. Is the hypermax showing the wrong pic? Duramax

I live in a country where fake products are easy to find so I am concerned if I am getting the right one.

    Thank you.

The 220817 shield is smooth (less spatter buildup) and is .060" shorter (allows correct standoff for mechanized cutting) than the other shield, which is part number 220818. The 818 is designed for hand cutting and maintains the correct arc length for best cut quality when dragging on the plate....the castleations (steps) on the front are to allow for air to escape when piercing close to the plate to increase life.

It sounds as though the incorrect picture is shown on the site. The correct pictures and part numbers for all Hypertherm consumables can be found in your operators manual as well as on the Hypertherm website. If there are ever questions about which consumables to use...always refer to the Hypertherm documents over any 2nd or 3rd party information....we pride ourselves on the accuracy of our manuals and printed info for the torches that we design and manufacture!

Hypermax is not related to Hypertherm, however they are an authorized distributor.

Beware of low cost, non genuine consumables. There are suppliers that copy Hypertherm's patented designs, however use different materials and manufacturing techniques as well as looser manufacturing tolerances. Plasma torches deal with consumable temperatures approaching 3000 degrees F, and arc temperatures approaching 25,000 degrees F., poorly manufactured consumable parts can cause serious damage to the torch body...

    thank's Jim.

I am glad I think I have been using the right and genuine hypertherm parts.

Thank's for the explanation. Although if Hypertherm could identify fake parts for us customers, what they could look like, it would be most helpful. it goes without saying that the best way to ensure getting genuine parts is through authorized distributors.

The vast majority of fake Hypertherm consumables do not have laser marked part numbers and the Hypertherm name as well as a batch code on every part....all Hypertherm consumables have these.

    220817 Photo

    Hok,
I just wanted to let you know that the image we had posted on our website was there in error. If you check back on Hypermax now, the image should display the correct part.

    Sorry about the confusion!
