    Powermax 85... anything bigger?

    Jim,

    I am a happy owner of 1650.

    Early 2003 vintage.

Are there any plans in the works to offer a larger version built on the new Powermax 65/85 platform?

I was picking up some consumables today and noticed that the electrodes are quite different from the electrode I use in my 1650.

Please explain the silver end on the torch side of the tip.

    Thanks,

    Tom

There eventually will be a replacement for the 1650....however not in the near future.

The new torch design on the Powermax65 and 85 eliminates the spring loaded plunger inside the torch. Instad, the electrode has a spring mechanism on the upper side. The silver contact area of the electrode is to ensure good contact with minimal heat buildup for the cutting current that passes through the electrode.

This new torch technology is now avaialbe as a "replacement torch" for the Powermax1000, Powermax1250 and Powermax1650 systems. It is called the Duramax torch, provides better cut quality and longer consumable life as well as better long term reliability as compared to the original torches on these systems. Here is a link to info regarding these torches on the Hypertherm website: Duramax Upgrade Torches for Powermax 1000, 1250 an 1650 systems | Hypertherm
