P-Max 85 1 1/4" cuts

Amazed at the cut quality of this hypertherm powermax 85.
Here's a couple pics of some 1 1/4" T-1 (A514) steel plate I cut. I feel this is probably the maximum thickness, but I may try some 1 1/2" for kicks.

85A, edge start, 7 IPM.
(The square parts were tacked together and stack drilled for a pin fit, I didn't attempt to cut the holes in them.....lol)

Hey BB,
Nice cutting mate, I've got an 85 on the way....replacing my trusty 1650 as I no longer get into the heavy stuff, still, it's nice to have some breathing space.

The pic I've attached is of some 1" I cut with a Powermax 1000, back in '06.
60amps, 8ipm.
The 1000 dicked out twice due to overheating but, gave a great result also.
On the 90mm pin holes, you'll see I had to do minimal cleaning for clearance, the cut was almost square from top to bottom.

Mick.

Very nice cuts on 1-1/4". Looks like you edge started on most...but on the inside cuts....did you drill pierce holes?

BBchevy396,

Awesome cut quality for the Powermax 85. I have not tried anything over 1/4 with my PM 85 but now I know what to expect with 1 1/4" I am still amazed at how long the 85 consumables last compared to my PM 1250 I sold.

What type of CNC table is your P-Max 85 being used on?

Torch used

Amazing cuts! I have an Thermal dynamics cut master true 85 and still I have not been able to obtain something that is resembled these cuts at least, what torch are You using? mechanical or manual?, I am thinking to change my machine(although still it is a new machine and with little use) by an Hyperterm because I have seen in many forums that make better cuts than mine, some recommendation?

On a table I recently built. Here's a link to my build thread.

I am using a machine torch, although, the hand torches use the same consumables, so i assume the cuts would be similar.

I also have a T/D Cutmaster 82, but have yet to try it on the table. it's my manual machine along with an older ESAB PCM1125. (great old machine)
