Hi guys! I'm an operator here at my uncle's company, and recently we just bought a multicam 1000 series cnc plasma cutter together with a hypertherm 1250 g3 series. Now the fumes and smoke are really bugging everyone in the shop, so I was thinking if we could make a water table under so as to minimize the fumes it produces? Thanks! Martin |

Hi Martin, I really recommend a water table, it may catch about 80 % of dust and smoke. An extra fan to vent the smoke exiting from the top of the sheet may be required. There are some pro's and con's to a watertable, there is plenty of info on this subject on the forum. Arthur

Hey thanks Arthur! Now my only question is with a water table, wouldnt it ruin the gantry when water splashes on it? I know of plasma quench, but my point is having high ampere electricity on water, does that need special shield? or is it still the same? Sorry for being such a newbie here, but I'm also planning to build ourselves another cutter or even a tube bender, so I'm absorbing as much as I can. Thanks again! Martin

Generally the water height should be adjustable.....when you get the water at the correct level, there is a good balance of minimal fumes and splashing. Plasma torches have been use with water tables for fume control since the 1960's.....it is a safe process. Jim Colt Hypertherm

Your watertable will, from a electrical point of view, most likely be one with the rest of the metal base of your table. So either be grounded or "floating". There is some discussion on the water being fractured by the plasmabeam into explosive hydrogen caught inbetween the water and the sheetmetal. In my opinion proper ventilation should deal with that (have a powermax 45 myself). You might consider the plasmatorch itself as a source of ventilation. The splatter is one of the main disadvantages on my table: mixed with the unavoidable dust it forms this sticky mud all over the table, the gantry with is nearby bearings in particular. I made some extra shielding of the Z-axes assembly against this splatter in an early stage. If I build a another table my second objective, after dealing with backlash, is dealing with the dust and splatter. Martin, according to the multicam website your table should be fitted with a downdraft table; doesn’t this deal with your initial question? Arthur
