    T100M PIP switch

My parts in place detent has been sticking when swapping/cleaning parts. I have blown it out a few times but think I need to get some advice on tear down or what the best way to repair it?

Jim, on the subject of torches, what is the status of the 1650 retro? Will it be able to be a "mini" as well when it hits the ground? Based on the 85's specs, will the new torch help the 1650 on the top end cut specs?

The Duramax torch can be used with the 1650 currently.....however we have not made a big promotion of it as we have not met our goals with consumble life improvement at the 100 Amp level. There are 100 amp consumables available for the Duramax torch, but they are real close in performance to the 100 amp consumables for the standard 1650 torch. Hypertherm does not like to release new technology unless it provides a clear advantage...and we are not yet there with 100 amps!

At all lower power levels, 80 amps and below...the Duramax torch provides dramatic improvements in cut quality, cut speed and consumable life, even on the Powermax1650.

    WSS,

I believe you are referring to the cap sensor switch. I broke mine once when disassembling my torch. It was an easy low cost fix. I included a Hypertherm T100M PDF for illustration purposes.

    Magma-joe,

Thats it. Somehow I thought it was called a "parts in place" switch. I must have got some splatter in it or around it to lock it up. It works intermittently but I do not want to get a ionized surprise when least expected. Thank-you!

Do you think it would be worth the upgrade to the duramax torch for 65 amp parts (1/2" plate)? I read your thread on the first impressions. Is the life really that much better? How about taper/bevel? Cut quality? It would not take much to push me off the fence.

Thinking out loud, What could I get for my 1650 w/ 50' T100-M and the grand worth of consumables? Would that be the wiser thing to do? I limit my machine to 3/4" anyway. Oxy covers me after that. Hmmm.....

From reading all the posts on the 65 & 85 systems, it sounds like there's a large difference in cut quality.
I'm also using a 1650 and stopped wondering about the change over, that's why my 1650 is now on ebay....plus a bunch of consumables.
I'll probably end up with change after the changeover.

    WSS,
As you might remember I had a TD A120 and the best I was able to get was around 300 pierces on 3/8 ar plate.
I'm not trying to sway your decision........ but I just changed out a nozzle and electrode with 890 pierces and an average cut of around 8 to 10 inches. Cut quality was good until the next to last part. 65 amps with a Powermax 85.
    Needless to say I'm impressed!

Wow! Almost three times the life. That would pay for itself pretty quick. I can get about 200 pierces on 1/2 AR500 right now before the bevel starts a directional move. Usually from an eroded nozzle.

How do you feel the new conical flow mechanics will work in the long haul on thick plate? Will it last ie, durable? I really like our 1650. It is a worker. I am hoping to upgrade to a Duramax torch and have a spare torch for other mechanical operations like small hole beveling and track cutting.

I just looked up a price for an 85 w/50' M torch and the cpt (sp?) output and it seems like it is less than what I paid for my 1650 (somewhat set-up the same).

    Benderart,

I just looked up your machine, Nice shape! Just checked currency widget and about fell over. Oz is almost equal to the spiralling US dollar. Last time we were in Australia ('99), we could eat chunky meat pies until you popped for about $7usd, thats for two people.

What will a 85 set you back down under? In the U.S. it looks like 3.5K
