    JimColt... Question About Hypertherm

We use a Powermax 1000 G3 here were I work...

We need to get a THC... I see your company provides options, but my problem is rooted that when I contacted someone at your company today I was informed that there is not a solution for metal that may warp during cutting. Yet I find all these amazing threads and youtube videos of "something" that is causing a torchhead to adjust as it cuts...

Even more of a concern is that the gentleman I spoke with didnt know what I meant by "metal that warped during the cutting using a plasma machine" but later after explaining to him what I meant; he instead of explaining the pros and cons about your company's THCs immediately tried to get me to "upgrade" to a more "modern" machine that would cut metal under water and end my problem. Quite an expensive upgrade...

So in reading various threads about the ohmic sensor and such I saw your replies and frankly, you come across much more informed than the individual I spoke with. So I am hoping you could help me out.

I need a solution for keeping my torch height at optimum cutting distance from the metal at all times. The gentleman I spoke with today informed me your systems only adjust the intial height when the cut begins and cannot provide a change in cut height during the cut if the sheet of metal were to expand and warp.

Can you offer any input or was he correct?

Please provide me the phone number and or persons name that you spoke with!

Hypertherm has been building torch height control systems since the 1970's, in fact I believe we developed the first arc voltage torch height control. We have never built a height control that just provided initial height...rather all of our systems are state of the art arc voltage based THC's. Currently we have 4 different models of industrial torch height control systems for plasma, and information can be found at this link on the Hypertherm web site:

Plasma and Oxy-fuel torch height controls | Hypertherm

All of our height conrols will help control torch to workpiece distance during steady state cutting, and will work for metal that warps during cutting.

If you can provide me more details about your application it would help. Do you have a cnc machine? Do you have plasma on it? If so what make and model, size, configuration....any pictures? I'd be glad to help you get a torch height control systems that works for your application.

    Best regards, Jim Colt
