Green coloured pierce, short consumable life

D80 K2P0-0000
Plamsa PowerMax 1650 G3 Series

I'm having issues with short consumable life for example about every 15 pierces the nozzles is shot. During piercing there's a greenish colored flame around the torch and brownish smoke on the work piece. I've watched the air pressure and noticed that after turning up the pressure to 90 psi the pressure drops to about 75 psi during the cut. I have replaced the torch body with a new one and still have this issue. Any other ideas?

Sounds like the electrode and/or nozzle is being consumed. The green color is likely burning copper.

On out PM30, when the electrode is totally gone, we have the same symptoms. The cut is very poor, and it's much noisier than normal.

It's kind of hard to explain the pierce but imagine lighting about 20 match heads that's kind of what the pierces looks like and sounds like. It's always the nozzle that gets burnt up first.

Are you sure you have the correct electrodes?

I'm sure Jim Colt will be around to help you with your problem.

Take care,
Paul

That was the first thing I asked the operator, and supervisor both said they did.

Sounds like either the incorrect combination of consumables, a serious air pressure leak, or that the power supply has an issue with pilot arc current that is too high. I would suggest contacting Hypertherm tech service....it is free and they are very helpful.

I had a problem like that, it increased until the electrode blow on the first shot, the solution became very simple, I had very low coolant flow, a filter blocked...
