I was cutting some parts tonight and stumbled onto a dross-free cut in 3/16".. I had been cutting at 90ipm, and was getting some dross so I was speeding things up here and there with no luck. I got up to 115ipm, and it cut poorly, so I slowed the feedrate %, which is how I found the right speed.
Now I REALLY want to get 1/16" to cut cleanly. I've tried alot of dif feedrates and even tried changing the amperage but still have alot of dross to pick off. We use the 1/16" for decorative things so theres alot of cleanup, if I can get it to cut cleaner it would be really great.
What steps should I take to find the correct settings?
Any help would be appreciated
Are you sure that settings are the issue here. I've found that using the standard settings from hypertherm work well. When I first began using a cnc plasma table I had lots of dross problems. However, I discovered that I wasn't changing the electorde and nozzel often enough. Also I discovered that my torch was not set at 90 degrees to the cutting surface. Addressing these two issues solved a lot of my problems.
