Plasma Cutter Question

I have a chance to buy a used 1000 with mechanical torch and hand held for $1,200. I've read alot about the 45, is it that much better than the 1000. I plan on mainly cutting 1/4" or less. Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks

The Powermax1000 is a 60 Amp unit, while the Powermax45 is a 45 Amp unit. On materials thicker than about 1/4" the 1000 has more power, and also has thicker piercing capability. When using the FineCut consumables..the cut quality is nearly identical to the Powermax45 on thinn materials.

The 45 has better consumable life and better edge angularity (from my experience).

Regardless.....for the price you will be getting a great bargain, especially with both hand and machine torches!

I did go ahead and buy it. It had been mainly used for cutting 10 and 12 ga. I got kind of lucky on this one. I was talking to a guy at a welder repair place and he told me about it. I figured that it was too good to be true, but the guy just wanted to get it out of his garage.
