Hello Jim. I was hoping you could answer a few questions. I am new to this forum and not sure if this is the proper method of contacting you however my questions your answers may be useful to some others. My supplier in B.C. Canada does not have enough knowledge about your products and that is why these questions. Your edge prduct line. Is this a stand alone unit or do I still need all the motor controllers? Can I upgrade my Hypertherm 1000 to true hole technology? If no what product line has this function? What machine do I need to buy? How small a hole can the true hole system cut? 1/4"? My hypertherm 1000 has a manual torch, how can I put a machine torch head on it, and could I interchange the two so I can still use the unit on the floor or with my cnc machine? Thank you for your time, and if this is not the appropriate way to do this please advise. Bruce01 |

| All good questions! The Edge PC based CNC controls from Hypertherm are available in 6 different models....depending on your application. There is: Edge Pro, Edge TI, MicroEdge, Mariner, and Voyager lll controls....with a lot of different features. The Edge TI is available with built in drive amplifiers....and drive motors are available as well. Here is a link to info on these units: http://www.hypertherm.com/en/Product...rols/index.jsp Hypertherm CNC controls are specifically designed for Plate cutting applications.....they are industrially hardened to be immune from electrical noise issues.....are windows based, and the easiest to operate industrial cnc control available. There are thousands in use worldwide. True hole tech nology is brand new from Hypertherm...it is a breakthrough in plasma cut holes that eliminates the typical ding and divot, as well as the taper that is seen in all plasma cut holes. It is a highly engineered process that involves very good coordination between the cnc, the CAM nesting software, the plasma system and the torch height control....it also requires a plasma process....Oxygen plasma gas and oxygen shield gas....a very aggressive cutting process,,,,that was developed specifically for eliminating the taper in holes. It is only available on Hypertherm's HPRXD series plasma systems (high definition class) in power levels from 130 to 400 Amps. Holes can be cut with tolerances previously experienced with drilling or with high powered plate lasers....but at plasma speed and cost. So.....no, the Powermax systems are not capable of operating withing the True Hole capability. The True Hole process is designed for cutting 1:1 ratio holes down to 1/4" diameter.......so a 1" hole on 1" plate, 1/2" hole on 1/2" plate. Here is a link to more info on the True Hole process: https://www.hypertherm.com/library/f.../SB_870820.pdf And a link to an article describing the process that I recently wrote: http://www.fandmmag.com/print/Fabricating-and-Metalworking/NEW-PLASMA-CUTTING-TECHNOLOGY-TAKES-CARE-OF-THE-HOLE-ISSUE/1$4013 Your Hypertherm Powermax1000 has a quick disconnect for the torch.....you can change the torch without tools in seconds......so it is easy to go back and forth between a hand torch and a machine torch. I leave the machine torch on my cnc machine.....as it is mounted and the leads are in the power track.....but I can easily plug the hand torch into the power supply to cut up the skeleton from a full nest of parts....or for other cutting uses in my shop. Hope this helps answer a few questions! Jim Colt
