hi guys i have an esab profile cutter that was retrofitted to run linuxcnc after the esab control gave up the ghost a few years back and up to now we have been using the capacitive height control that came on the machine (i know how wrong this is for plasma) and its been doing fine ish all this time but we have come to the time to change things

ive been offered a hypertherm phc ( axis and controller ) for a price we are willing to pay but am in too minds as to if im better off building the z axis for the machine and integrating the thc into linuxcnc (i know it can do this and have the voltage card already to add on)

so my question is does the hypertherm kit compete with a tied in z axis with all the functions already being in gcode and such? id say the performance while cutting should be close to each other ?

and is there caveats to the sensor phc system i should be aware of ?

thanks
