| We have been using Hypermill at the University of Arizona for just over two years. We have a Kern MMP-2122 micromilling machine in the Astronomy Department that we use to make detectors for radio astronomy. Our machine can deliver +/-0.0001 accuracy on the part, and hypermill has proven to be very good at machining ultra high precision parts. Hypermill was recommended to us by the machine tool manufacturer as the best CAM program for micromilling. Open Mind also gives a very good educational discount to US customers, so we were able to afford 5 seats of 3 axis hypermill for Inventor with all the options. Here's an example of a part we made with our machine, and Hypermill. The first picture shows the two block halves, the second shows a closeup of the most detailed part of the block, and the third shows the assembled block. The small grooves between the two larger channels range between 0.0048 and 0.0060 in width, and are 0.0204 deep, all with 0.0001 precision. The top and bottom blocks are registered to each other to within 0.0001. |

| Chris, Follow this link to another Hypermill thread. http://www.cnczone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32674 What do you think about Hypermill's ability to use micromachining for turbomachinery? |

| We just moved to hyperMILL from Esprit and so I've been trying to absorb as much info on it as I can. The Open Mind folks tend to be a tight-lipped group from what I've gathered so far. Not much info out there... so I guess we'll wait for our official training date. Training begins here in a couple of weeks when the new Sodick HS430L 3-axis comes to compliment the HS650L. We build molds for the optics industry; lenses and arrays of various configurations, plus other things.
