Easiest CAM - Ultimax interface?

I just managed to slip into a slv 40, with an Ultimax controller. I know that you can 'drip feed' it g codes, but have read around that they don't like to just take them straight from your cam software. I was wondering what the easiest software is to use with an Ultimax control, or if it would end up being easier to just throw a computer together and retrofit to something using mach 3 or something. The three of us in my shop are a couple of mech-e's and a tool&die student, and have access to quite a bit of software, be it student versions, or discount/trial stuff, i was just wondering if any of you have gone through the software selection process, and what you thought 'talked' to your Ultimax controller well.

Thanks a million for any info anyone has!

Wherever you read that they "don't like taking gcode straight from cam" is basically rubbish. They are the same as any other control in that they require a suitable post processor for whichever cam you use. I use featurecam very successfully with the ultimax 2 control, but I'm sure any of the major cam programs will work just fine (with the right post processor!).

Edit: Also, if the control is working properly as is, don't waste your time retro'ing with mach 3 or the like. It will not come close to the performance and functionality of the original control.
