Anybody have a KMC-3 with TC

Same as KM-3 but with tool changer and auto speed control. My question is how does it work? I am trying to get mine running and I'm not sure if it's worth it.

Thanks

Tricky to keep going. Unclamp mechanism needs a special tool to set it up, arm assy. is not very tolerant of loose keys.
In summary, nah.

Thats what I was wondering. Is the special tool a hurco tool? I guess I would need to contact hurco to get a setup procedure as the manual does not have any setup or adjustment procedures?

I've got one of the setup tools. To be honest, it's not worth doing. I took a toolchanger off of one of these years back as it was as loose as a tart's knickers. That wasn't the easiest thing in the world to do either. If it runs ok as a 3 axis manual, I'd leave well alone.....

See you made me cry again. Damn I wanted to believe.

Any easy ideas on how to defeat all the TC limits and things so that I can just operate the mill? I was trying to home the arm but the claw wants to stay closed in the home position and blocks the spindle.

Apparently some previous owner replaced a spring loaded stop in the claw air solenoid with a piece of hose. Clever idea, until it swelled. Caused the claw to throw a tool into my digital calipers. Anyway the claw now opens in the home position. Any idea on what to adjust to slow the arm.

Also turns out that part of my problems with the z have been a blown amp card which only allows me to jog one way in the Z, i guess that's blown?

There's a little aluminium pot above the magazine housing that is connected to the horizontal cylinder. That pot should have oil in it as it acts as a speed control for the arm assy.
The little adjuster valve next to it is to control the speed. wind the air pressure at the main regulator down until the toolchanger just moves, top the oil in the pot up to half way (32 or 37 light hydraulic oil will do) and keep cycling the arm until the air stops coming out. The valve should then be adjusted at full pressure for a nice toolchange speed.

Thanks Bloke.

BTW does your spindle have the dogs on the end that index into the grooves on the tool, or is that omitted in the KMC?

I don't have a KM3 with a toolchanger. I've fixed a few though. They don't have drive keys in the spindle due to there being no orient mechanism. Friction is the order of the day with these!

Thanks for the help. I am going to give the TC a try but not waste too much time on it.

I found a servo drive from AMC. I don't have any experience with them but they seem to be plentiful and cheap.
