Hello I have a Hurco VM2 with a 20 tool changer. The swing arm hung up. On inspection, I found the bolt heads missing on the bushing for the stop pin. So I removed the swing arm and fixed it. Now, I need to put it back and I am wondering how to align it. Any one have any documentation? Paul Smargiassi |

| Put a tool pocket in the down position, and put a tool in it. Go to toolchanger diagnostics. Put a tool in the spindle and orient it. Make sure the tool is at toolchanger height. Move the toolchanger to the 60 degree position. Slide the arm up the shaft and rotate it to engage with both tools. Lock the four M8 screws. Move the arm through the rest of the toolchange or return to zero degrees using the diagnostics. Job done, ten minutes max. |

| Blokes basics are on target but... Check tool height against the height of the tool pocket by mounting a mag base indicator on the table. Come up under the tool flange with an indicator, zero it ( the pocket is the fixed height) and then move the table to position the indicator under the tool in the spindle. many times the head/spindle will be slightly higher that the pocket. If the arm is locked on to the swing shaft without adjusting the head height to match the tool pocket height, it is possible to get the arm on slightly cock-eyed. This could affect tool changes down the road. Problem is with the indicator method, if you have to move the head to match the pocket height, you'll need to record the original ATC height first and then store the new position, do the repair, finish the ATC cycle, then re-enter the original ATC height. You can get the codes to the service screens to reset the ATC height by calling Hurco Service. 800-638-1849 in the USA |

| I was working on the assumption that the toolchanger was OK until the arm hung up. To reset the toolchanger height (on Ultimax controls) press auxiliary, enter, 100, enter. Then press "machine set up and test" followed by toolchanger diagnostics. Orient the spindle, send a tool pocket down, then select Z jog. Send the arm to 60 degrees and jog the Z slowly upwards until the tool stops sliding through the arm (there is about a millimetre of up/down movement). Carefully judge where the tool just stops moving and then press "more" softkey until you see "store Z position". Store the Z position. Finish the toolchange and check the other end of the arm (in case the arm has been damaged). With the arm around a tool in the spindle, the unclamp operation shouldn't now deflect the arm down when it is unclamped. Setting with a dial gauge as in the post above will need you to subtract about a millimetre from the toolchange height figure stored to allow for this. Exit from diagnostics and save a backup to the config floppy. |
