Newbie- Hurco VM1 empty directory?

I am new to this site and so far have found it very interesting. Our shop just bought a used 2006 hurco VM1 with the single control (MAX) In storage funtions there were several directories with programs in them from the previous owmer. I deleted the programs so that I could delete the directories but when I try to delete the directories it says something like unable to delete a directory that is not empty. When I highlight the directory it shows parent dir. which you cannot delete. If I create my own directory, put a program in it, and then delete program followed by the directory everything works fine. What is the problem?

In Auxillary, Storage functions, select the F7 More key until you find the button that says change Program Mask. Press the key and then use the keyboard and type in *.*, or use the Multiply key, Period, Multiply
This will then show ALL files in the directory, delete all the programs, then delete the directory.

The Hurco will default and show *.hd3 files in conversational mode, however there may be other files with a different file extension that do not currently show up in each directory, until you do this.
