Hurco VMC's versus Fadal, Hass, Doosan, etc.?

Just wondering how Hurco VMC's and other equipment compare to the competition in terms of quality, performance, reliability, ease of use, resale value, etc.?

I worked at a job shop for four years that had 12 Hurco CNC mills ranging from the BMC series to the VMX series of Mills. All the Hurco mills their ran on Ultimax 3 or Ultimax 4 software. I must say, if you are doing one of jobs and simple parts (drill, tap, 2d contour) they are hard to beat. The graphics capability gave me the confidence to skip dry runs and start making chips. They are fast to program. I was able to write a program to drill a tap 3 holes and drill and counter bore 2 hole in less than 90 sec. And setup is fast also with the tool/part offset measure button.

I now currently work at a job shop that run g-code machines including a Doosan MV 3016L. As in terms of quality, performance, accuracy, speed, and reliability, the Hurco is not up to par. The monitors would burn out on the Hurco VMX and the tap cycle is slow with poorer thead quality.

Bottom line, if you are making simple parts with low quantity, I found the Hurco to be faster to set-up and program than g-code machines. In fact ANY part I can make on a bridgeport, I can make faster with a Hurco. But if I am running production where speed, accuracy, reliability is more important, I would evaluate other machines.

The Hurco VMX series have TFT monitors now. The old CRT types are no longer used. Pretensioned screws keep things accurate. There are no problems with tapping that I know of. Reliability is not an issue either. Most problems with CNC are caused by poor housekeeping and misuse.

Hurco machines can run industry standard g-code and basic g-code as well. The conversational programming does make simple part setups faster and easier but you can also run any 2d or 3d g-code you write as well as any other machine i've ever used.
