I'm not sure if you have compered new machine prices with used but machine tool builders are really offering some attractive pricing right now. I recently purchased a new VM-10 with the Winmax classic package, flood coolant, rigid tap, shipped for around $40,000. Not to mention the VM-10 is 10,000 RPM and 20 tool changer standard with a new warranty.

Hurco makes great machines. i love the controller. I have yet to find one better. i m sure there is some with higher material/component quality, but I haven't seen one that will do what winmax will do. (i could just not of looked hard enough though)

we bought the vmx42 about a year ago, and only used the winmax software for programming during training. after using mastercam, i find its really inefficient to use winmax. for someone without cam software experience, you could enjoy it but you gotta pay to play with their software too, ie ulti-pockets, etc.

i want to say we got the vmx 42 with 4th axis rotary with tail stock for under 100k, but not exact on the pricing. i know when i asked my boss if we spent 125k, he laughed and said a whole lot lower.

the conversational Is a ton faster than programming on mastercam. (at least comparted to X4) by the time you get the program written, machine setup to match the program, edit to program for the correct post, and then verify its written properly, you can already have the first peice out the machine and start your production. Now thats not true with EVERY peice. but with the DFX converter id say its true for 80%

Yes it is an option, I don't recall how much it was but it was too much for my needs!

Edit: I looked up the price on my original proposal ...

    Control:
    Dual Screen Performance Package
Dual Screen WinMax Control, Select Surface Finish, Rigid Tapping Software, ISNC, NMCP, Advanced
Verification Graphics, Clear Dome Cover, Flood Coolant System, Chip Auger Assembly, Work light Assembly
    and Air Gun Assembly
    $17,000
