bmc 20 slow warm up

I have on old bmc 20 1993 model with ultimax 3 dual screen control. It had a new power supply fitted over a year ago and the screens were also repaired, the screens are colour ones. When I power the machine up the text screen takes about 10 minutes to come on and then a further 30 minutes to warm up so that the text can be read.

I have tried swapping the screens round and it still has the problem with the text screen, the graphics screen works fine. This proves it's not the screens as the problem would follow the screen when I swapped them round.

I can't see how it could be a power supply problem as this was a new hurco item just over a year ago.

Any help?

Ok, so excuse my ignorance but what's a VGA card and is it going to be expensive (probably). Do I have to get one from Hurco?

You've got two of them on the CPU. Stacked one on top of the other. they are identical, so if you are up to swapping them to prove it out, go for it!

CAps are drying out on the board. Replace all electrolytic caps and cleanup/ reflow solder joints that appear dull. If You have no experience in this kind of work, I recommend that you find a TV repairman and have him do it.
Do it ASAP , before is too late.

Ok, I found them, just like you say stacked one on top of the other on the cpu. There's two wires, one marked G and the other marked T obviously graphics and text. So if I just swap these wires round Should the text screen then be on the right on the pendant and the graphics screen on the left, opposite way round to standard. If the problem's still with the text screen being slow to warm up then it proves it to be the card that's at fault and not the crt. I've not done it yet so is this what you're saying I should try, just swap the wires round?

I've done some searches on the net for the vga cards and there are some places that claim to sell replacements. I couldn't see any electrolytic capacitors on the vga cards. I had the capacitors replaced on the crt's a couple of years ago and there's nothing that looks like them on the vga cards.

Any more help and advice?

Swapping the two cables will swap the displays over. Try that to see if the fault stays with the text side. On another think, have you got colour monitors or mono? If they are colour, do you have the supply for them plugged into the PCB under the keyboard (blue and white wires, 24v) or with a kettle-type plug (115v)?

Ok, here's an update. I swapped the wires over on the vga cards. The text screen is now on the right of the pendant and the graphics screen on the left. The text screen comes on straight away and the graphics screen is slow to warm up. So it would appear that the problem is staying with the left hand monitor.

To prove it out I put the wires back to the original positions and then swapped the complete monitors round. The problem moved with the monitor and it is now the right hand screen that is slow to warm up. There is obviously nothing wrong with the cards or power supply, it's the monitor itself that's at fault. I had them both serviced and repaired less than 2 years ago. I was posative I changed them round some time ago to see if the problem moved with the monitor, maybe I didn't. So, any ideas on what could be causing the monitor to be slow to warm up. They are colour monitors and the blue and white 24 volt wires are connected.

You can try what Andrew M suggested or you might consider a lcd replacement from Earth lcd. They are much cheaper than the regular Hurco monitors. Fadals have been having much success with them.
