Cable should be: (from one plug to the other).
pin2 to pin3
pin3 to pin2
pin5 to pin5
pin7 to pin8
pin8 to pin7
shield connected to the metal shell of the plug at one end only
with the above connections, you can use cts/rts or xon/xoff
If you only have pins 2,3&5 with a shield, you will only be able to use xon/xoff.

Hey Bloke, What's up, ?

Neilleslie, Bloke is right, I have had better luck (and thruput) using a Full Handshake cable, (5 Wire) Min. Set it up as listed below, Use (I think it is level 2) CRT/RTS in the Hurco, and on the PC Use Hardware handshake.

1.) Try with either and both ports on the Hurco, also try another PC. Based upon this thread below, all looks to be well, also cable no longer than 50', I suggest purchasing one from a local PC store 6' long, can't go wrong that way, also pick up a null modem adaptor, and move the PC next to the machine until you get it to work. When complete, you can then build a longer cable and wire it correct.

Attached is a Procedure to use Hyper terminal (it comes on every PC) Also make sure you have an older PC with a true Comm Port, Not a UCB to Serial Converter !

Good Luck !

Brock

Hey Bloke, does the RS 232 check out work on a 1989 Hurco with Ultimax II control, version 8.15 (i think)
I tried years ago to get connected and had lots of trouble. used a 3 wire to eventually get downloads from the control, but have never been able to upload to the hurco.
I would like to get CAM ware someday.
Thanks
Rich

If I remember correctly, the test can be found at:
Aux enter 5 2 7 enter.
Are you using the round MIL spec connectors?

Yes, The military ones.
and Yes Bloke, the 527 code works
Thank You very much
It says if I don't have the cables in place, I will damage the machine ??

Any comment on why the warning ?
I don't understand what I would damage...unless it is the electronics, which I know little of

Thank Again for the kind help

Rich

That's only for the I/O checks. You only need to do the serial port / com test.
