Started working on the Mighty Hurco today and ran into a few problems. KMB-1 will not stay powered up? When you push the power switch on it will only remain on as long as you hold the switch. As long as the switch is held in the on position the machine will zero and all axis function correctly. After a period of time the relay contactor in the upper left hand corner of the main disconnect cabinet starts to smoke, it is a bakelite burning smell. We have air connected to the machine however don't know if the pressure is adjusted properly. There is 24 volts on the input of the power switch and as long as its held in 24 volts is applied to the other control switches. Is there a Hurco control expert in the house? Jeff...

The control on circuit is latched on by the machine's interface bd. Go to IJ3 pin#2 and measure the volatge at this point. If the machine is ready to run (and it is if you can calibrate etc.. by holding in the power on sw) if the voltage is 24 vdcn the the problem is the opto coupler on the interface bd. There are a number of places that can repair this bd. Just do a search on the web. MIDWEST CNC is one possibility.

Hi, Good advise by Frenchman, take it one stage better and ground IJ3 pin 2 this will energise the COR (command on relay) if this action switches the machine on then the opto isolator is no good this is the last item in the control on circuit. I would sugest that you log on to www.martincnc.com and you will find circuit diagrams for your machine. I have dealt only as a customer with Shane Martin and his manner of helping you over the telephone is brilliant. ( I am in the UK and Martin CNC is in the USA) He can also do your board repairs. Warning do not fit a compatible opto isolator they do not work, ( had some fitted in UK by electronic expert in the end had to fit some Shane sent me) Good Luck. Louis
