| You use to be able to down load a diabled version of winmax from the Hurco web site at one time. I would look into something else if it were me. It will do 2.5 D not 3D. A copy of winmax use to go for somewhere around 5000.00. let me discribe Hurco 3D draw it on a 2D surface the, Revolve it like a merry-go-round, or spin it like jumping rope, or extrude it like a gutter. Do no put a boss in the middle of it. It is similar to AutoCad 28 years ago. And yes I am that old. I am also crotchity, and have bad hair (both of them). If you need programing help call me or email me. |

| Master Cam if you can snatch up and old copy or see the neighborhood Pirate, use the "I-m8t" password. I was a master cam user for about 10 years. Easy and fast. Modify your own post to customize it. Killer stuff for 10 or so.

| Mastercam and Bob cad are pretty much the same. Not conversational by any means. Actually, quite useless without a pretty decent understanding of CAD software, and far too many steps involved to do something as simple as programming the profile of the outside of a part. Something that takes literally seconds in Winmax. |

| Exatly the way I use it in my shop. 90-95 percent of the injection mold tool is done on the conversational side, 3D (true 3d) like a T.V. remote outer shell are done on the high end stuff, just because you can not program it on the conversational side of any machine (so I do not look like I am picking on the Hurco I repeat any machine). So tricky contours are what you do on the nc code side. Complicated problems take complex answers sometimes (mastercam, gibs, delcam, pro-mfg, bob cad, ect.).

| If I needed to 3D contour apart I would definitely be using my Bob cad, but pretty much 99% of what I need to do is nothing more than simple 2D profiling, pocketing, and islands. Surely there is a conversational software available to make short work of simple 2D milling. Hurco can't be the only option. Is it? |

| There are several machines I have used with a conversational programing for 2d. Bridgeport, Milltronics, and Hurco are the ones I have experience with. Each of them have pros and cons. I prefer Hurco over the others I have had experience with. It is the most powerfull of them.

Hello I do agree that windmax/pcmax is tough to be is tough to beat when doing simple stuff like drilling holes and milling simple contours. However if patrick71100 can't finnd a copy of winmax/pcmax for his use, I would suggest Partmaster 2 from Dolphin CAM. I belive it would be good enough for hobbie use for not much money ($600?). I looked into Partmaster 3 ($1000?) and I though it would be a very good alternivte to Mastercam/gibbs/and bobcad for the price if your not to serious about your Cad/Cam software. |

| Oh, I am serious about my Cam software. I just don't see the point in wasting time on all the steps involved in BobCad and other similar Cam packages if there is something simpler out there. It litterally takes me 5-10 times longer to write a program with BobCad vs. using Ultimax. |

| Dolphin isnt quite up there with mastercam. I have owned a few version of bobSCAM in the past and I will say this... Bobcrap doesn't hold a candle to Dolphin CAD-CAM. Dolphin is actually one of the best cad cam solutions I have ever used. I also have expierience with several so that speaks for itself. |
