Question KM3-P Questions. Power Requirments, Post Processor, Manuals..

    Hi,

So we just purchased a Hurco KM3-P for the shop to build billet ATV and snowmobile parts.

    - I need to know what I need to do for powering this machine weather it be a rotary phase converter or what? The machine is a 230v 3 phase and it will be ran here at my home property. I could of swore that there was some way to run this machine on single phase 220v??

    - We are also looking for a post processor that will work for this if anyone has anything?

    - Also would like to get a set of manuals for the machine if anyone has a lead on those.

    Thanks in advance

I've just got my KM-3 running at home on single phase 220. I ended up getting a small VFD and driving the spindle motor from that. The forward and reverse relays were rewired to drive the direction controls on the VFD. It even had a DIN rail mount on the back so it snapped into place on one of the existing rails. It works great although I haven't cut anything with it yet. The VFD was $225 shipped to my door. If you're interested, let me know and I'll put together a detailed list of the wiring changes. It took about two hours including digging up some wire to do the changes.

As for a post, here's one that I found. It's for MasterCAM but he may have some others.

I've got the owner's manual and a few others books, which one's, I don't remember at the moment. Which one are you trying to find?

Thanks fo rthe post processor!! We run Mastercam so that should work for us.

Ya, for the hell of it let me know what you did to run the single phase 220 setup. I'd be interested to see that.

I'm looking for whatever manuals i can get my hands on as we have nothing right now

For the wiring changes, I'll make a copy of the schematic and mark it up with some instructions. It will probably take longer to document it than it took to rewire it.

As for the manuals, here's what I have.

    704-0001-294 Dec 1984
Conventional NC Executive for Hurco Ultimax Control (3 copies)

    704-0001-336 Jan 1987
    Ultimax Training Manual (4 copies)

    704-0001-360 July 1987
    Ultimax Disk Option

    704-0001-375 June 1989 (Rev B)
    Ultimax II Programming

    704-0001-555 March 1990
    NC Programming (8.0)

    704-0001-312 June 1986
KM-3 Three Axis Milling Machine Owner's Manual

And a PDF of the wiring and mechanicals.

O wow you def have a few... are all of these useable for the KM3P with a ultimax 2 controller?

Are you looking to sell them or how do I go about getting my hands on a set?

I'd love the conversion details also.

I have a KM3P on a 10hp Rotary phase converter and that just eats the KW's even when the machine is just sitting.

It think it also requires another small VFD to power the coolant pump, something like 1/2hp.

Here's the first cut at putting together a document that explains what I did to convert from 3 phase to single phase.

    http://home.windstream.net/rbalister...conversion.pdf

Read over it and let me know if you have any questions before you try and do what it outlines. Note that for a KM-3P you will need a second VFD for the spindle speed control motor. For the coolant pump, you would probably be better off changing out the motor for a single phase one.

Above all else, please be careful. Remember all electronics works on smoke. To prove this, if you let the smoke out it ususally doesn't work anymore.

WetDream, I can send you a copy of the manuals that I have that are duplicates. For the other books, I'll see if I can get them scanned and send you the PDFs.
