If the axis rotates but it doesn't count on the screen, it can't be the amp. The encoder is not connected in any way to the amp but is fed directly to the DSP card. If the amp had been shorted and blown, it wouldn't rotate. I think it'll be encoder or the wiring to it from the control cabinet socket.
I've just had a thought though. On the little breakout board on the edge of the card rack (four honda sockets, A axis plugged in the first one) there are two little fuses for the encoder power. I bet yours has gone pop. Take the little board out and meter the fuses. Swap the good one with the bad and you may fix it.

I'm hearing you bloke.. the axis counts on the MACHINE but not the PART readout...
but I expect thats because of the fact it won't calibrate without faulting out...
I tried to access the hidden menu (aux enter 100 enter) but it didnt work.
tried a few other numbers but nothing so it seems I cant get into in.. anyway.
Will have a crack tomorow in work..
could you give me a little clue as to what I am expecting to see? (photo) (schematic) perhaps?
Thanks so much for your replies.

Is it counting in the rigjht direction? Clockwise looking at the table should be positive on the display. If the encoder is counting the wrong way, it won't calibrate it'll just run away.

Right. Here's a thought. Maybe they have swapped an encoder phase and the reference pulse.
When the table rotates, does the machine position count at the right rate for the actual rotation? Does it count up say, 10 degrees but the table rotates nearer 360?

If you have counting on the screen, the fuse must be ok. For future reference, they are soldered on the back of the little board with the sockets on.

bloke : yet again you where correct, the Hurco engineer came today and found a 2amp fuse had blown on the board (prob the one you said)
so all fixed now, A axis runs a treat and all is well.
MANY MANY thanks for all your replies and help.
Accurate as always, only wish I had been able to find it myself. ah well.

    Cheers..
    Love this forum, ! :-) :-)
