That's helpful. It looks as though some one tried that in the past because there is a fan mounting bracket attached to the bottum plate. I 'll put one in.
After taking the head assembly apart I found that in addition to a burnt barring the nylon bushing closest to the bad barring is very loose fitting. I am looking to replace that and several other things given it's apart.
