    Winmax Help

I have been running a VMX42 as a side job. It uses Winmax, I have been using Ulitmax for the past 13 years and thought it shouldn't be a problem....well I ran into something tonight that threw me off. I was trying to do a 4th axis setup which on the Ultimax hasn't been a problem for me to do,so I proceed to install the 4th axis on the table. No problem yet, until I restarted the machine. It booted no problem and showed the 4th axis in manual mode so I know it was there. The problem was when I went to do the program I couldn't get the rotary blocks to show up. In the Ultimax setup it asks you at program start if you want a conventional or rotary program. Does it not ask in the Winmax? The way I overcame this is that I went to I believe it was called user settings and changed the program format. Seems like that is a lot of extra steps to create a rotary program and then have to remember to set it back to conventional. Am i wrong?

Yeah that is what I did, but with the Ultimax control it asks you at startup what you want. I guess you have to go back and set it back to conversional when you go back? This is my first experience with Winmax and so far everything has been pretty self explanatory. I really like it more than the Ultimax...so much so I want to see about converting our 42 to Winmax.

I'm not sure, but there might be a default some where that will automatically select the program type in Winmax when you start a new program.

Eathier way, you can make a 3-axis program even though you have the fourth axis selected, but you can not make a 4-axis program when you have the 3-axis format selected. However, if you take a Fourth axis program to a 3-axis machine, there maybe some compatibly issues.

I've ran a Hurco HTX 500 with the Ulitmax4 controller on it, then the company upgraded it to the Winmax control (V7?). It took the Hurco tec. about a day or so to do the install but It was worth the wait. They are some things I still like about the Ulitmax4, but over all I like the Winmax better. More options and better user interface. But the biggest difference is the Tap cycle. Faster AND more accurate. That alone was worth the the upgrade. I don't know what the cost was to do it, but you won't regret it.

Now they have Winmax V8, witch is even better. You should be able to download the demo Version from Hurco's web site so you can try it out yourself for 30 days on your computer.

Thanks Glovebox, I have only played with the Winmax at this second job and have been really impressed. It is quite a bit quicker that the older software. The Hurco guy was out here doing some maintenance a couple of weeks ago and was saying the V8 was really slick. I am going to start hitting the boss up to see what he thinks. The tool show is coming to town in a couple of months maybe Hurco will have a demo there.

    Thanks Bernie
