Question continual start up problems, KMP3

I have made several posts here about problems getting the machine going or more importantly being able to get started on it.

I have this machine in my home shop, I used one in my regular job for several years and I feel comfortable using it, it has been upgraded to an Ultimax 2 controller as well as upgrades to the software, it came from a delphi automotive tool room.

I am running the machine on a phase convertor, nothing special. The problem I am having is intermitant and varied and can consist of any of the following:

    1) on powering the machine I may only get a blinking curser
    2) the machine goes through start up, then won't zero properly(think I have this one corrected)
    3) the machine gets as far as the console lights(green ones) coming on then freezes(lights still on)
    4) It goes through the start up but the start button has no effect, in other words when I press it to engage the servos nothing happens.
    5) The command screen has the blinking curser but the graphics screen powers up and shows the part.

there may be more but this is more then enough for now, the most common problem is #1 but #4 is catching up with #3 on its tail.

I replaced the mother board in it earlier this year as well as the power supply and am not really sure either halped the problems.

I had a local company (Midwest CNC)who is suppose to specialize in older Hurcos out on several occasions, they never really did anything to help as the machine started working fine when they were here, they did find where some mice decided to make a home but there didn't appear to be any damage from that other then their mess.

Just when I think I am making progress I get knocked back a few steps, the other persons post about the most fun he has had with a hurco is looking better.(he took a BFH to a running machine)

One person suggested that I wire up the power supply to a seperate 115 volt outlet as the power is more stable then coming from the phase convertor, any ideas on doing this/

Any suggestions, I am willing to hire someone to get the thing going but I don't want to keep paying someone to come out to fix it only to have it run and heres your bill which is what Midwest has done.

    Many TIA, Brian

To wire the control to a 115v outlet, look at the power supply. You will see a cable to one end marked L, N & E. Disconnect the cable and tape it off. Re-connect the power supply to the 115v outlet with the Live, neutral and earth. See if this improves your boot-up situation.

Okay, I unhooked the power supply and then turned on the power to double check the voltage on the lines going into the power supply. for some reason the "L" wire was only showing between 5-10 volts and the neutral wire was showing a 3-5 volt charge. I am assuming that this isn't correct and that I should have shown a 115 volt charge on the "L" wire.

I hooked up a power cord to the power supply box but wanted to check here first before plugging it in.

While looking for a bad connection earlier I had the panel behind the cathode ray tube down and was checking the board, I got a jolt out of a large "capacitor"(?) on the board, it has a large red wire coming out of the top of it that goes to the top of the cathode tube. When I went to close the panel I saw a blue arc go between this "capacitor" and the panel, when examining it I noticed what appeared to be a pin hole/crack in the outer housing, also a resistor on the board let loose with its "magic smoke" putting it out of commission. The graphics screen comes up fine, showing the part I had been working on, it seems all the issues are either with the control screen or the start button, could this be from the wrong voltage going into the power supply?

sorry to be so confusing, Brian
    TIA
