    Angry ultimax II shuts down

    Hi All

I turned on my kmb3 with ultimax 2 control and the control did not fire up, not even a flicker on the Leds. When i tried again the machine fired up fine. I wrote a small program and started milling no probs. Then there was a click in the control cabinet and everything shut down, the spindle stopped and the control unit went down with no life, the fans etc where still running. I then powered of the machine and tried again. Eventually the machine started up again, there was no loss of memory or any signs of a problem but after about 10 mins the same problem happened. I have since not got the machine to power back up NEED HELP!!!

sounds like a possable loose cable conection. open up all cabinets and start pushing look for any sign of a connector not seated well. Especciall in a control pndant that swivels.

My guess is a contactor or relay, or the power supply itself. You really need to find "bloke" on here. I have had little battles with him, but I would say he is the best Hurco guy on here.

Best thing to do first is find the power supply behind the rack of boards in the bottom of the cabinet.
Measure the voltages on the supply relative to 0v (grey wires).
    You should have:
    Yellow +5v
    Brown +12v
    Orange -12v
    Blue +24v

If you have any missing or wildly off spec I.E 28v instead of 24v or 9v instead of 12v, it'll be time to dig out a power supply supplier's details.

If these are all present, undo the locking screws at the top of the rack and remove the cables to the Personality card and Dual Axis cards (mark 'em up). Tip the rack forwards and check the plugs on the bottom of the backplanes are clean and well seated.
Don a static wriststrap for the next bit.
While your rack it tipped forward, slide the boards out noting where the little fellas go and check the backplanes (the boards they plug into) for dirt or swarf.
Clean up as necessary and also clean the edge connectors on the boards.
Pop 'em back in and let us know!

UTT - Thanks for the compliment.

Bloke: Gota give props where props are due. I may hate these machines, but I don't hate guys that can fix them
