I don't like the quality of them. Operators love the controls. For the price look at HAAS as well. Some people love them, some hate them. I've expressed my opinion before on this forum, and I will now be silent.

I personally like the Hurco's over the Haas do to their control, Graphics screen and more rigidity. I know underthetire doesn't like Hurco's machines and I can't blame him. I myself wish they did a better job of building them. If I was strictly doing repeat jobs, I would probably consider the HAAS machine though. Also, if you have a good CAM system, Hurco's advantage is greatly reduce.
I don't know alot about the lathes, but it seems to me that Hurco is stronger in the mill category vs lathes from what I hear.
One thing you can do, is download the Winmax software and see how you like the software. If you look around on this fourm, you should be able to find a link that Captdave has posted.
I'll try to follow underthetire lead and hopefully keep my mouth shut. Although of you have any question's on programing the mills, feel free to ask me.

Hurco makes great control software for mills and bending brakes.
Lathes I can not address.
For short run work and prototype Ultimax rules. For mass production its best to hand optimize (if you have the skillz) a G-code format program. Also G-Code is the way to go if you need to do 4th axis work.
Machine wise, Haas vrs Hurco - kinda a loose/loose question. Both are light to mid weight type machines.
I was the shift lead at a plant with 7 Haas, seems 1-2 were always down. OTOH I know Hurco needs to be treated nice.
For what its worth I own a Hurco now, but I only do short run work at this point.
