Wrong sla7078 from hobbycnc!

i ordered a replacement sla7078mpr from hobbycnc, and was shipped a sla7078MR.
the website lists the item as 7078mpr, and that is what i really wanted, because the MPR has protection. the MR does not have built in protection circuitry, and if your stepper motor shorts out, it takes the controller chip with it. (happened to my hobbycnc x-axis chip, which was a MR).

i did'nt make this up. i got this info from the datasheet.

so this is an open letter to rigotti. please, inform buyers exactly what they are getting, as this is a product variation that cannot be ignored.

i was considering sending the product back, but then, im in the process of building a more powerful linistepper driver.

sorry for bringing out the guns on my first post.

Did you contact hobbycnc before posting your problem here?

no, i did not. i did not feel the need to, because im moving on to a different controller.

all, i was doing was expressing my disappointment, that after selling thousands of this chips, hobbycnc should be one of the most informed companies, regarding the specs on this chip.

Look for the M, er, "P", on each piece.

If there is a "P" anywhere on the chip, it's the correct one. The manufacturer has changed the nomenclature, (printng), on the product a few tmes.
Good luck with your project!

For example:
SLA7078MR
8624 P

Buy me a Beer?

Just a minor point: The Linistepper, although it is a very fine drive (I'm biased, I sell the kits for it , and does have some nice features that the SLA7078 does not, probably isn't any more "powerful" than an SLA7078 based driver. The SLA7078 supports up to about 3A and the linistepper, as sold in the kit, supports 1.5A and can be tweaked up to about 3A if you really know what you are doing.

I guess you could call the Linistepper more powerful in terms of smoothness, reduced resonance, and therefore increased top speed and torque. It really isn't designed to compete in that area; the Linistepper is for very smooth, linear operation of low cost, medium small, high inductance surplus motors at somewhat higher speeds and torques than the same motor would provide with a chopper type driver such as the SLA's

The new SLAm stepper driver kit that we are coming out with soon is a more direct replacement with it's SLA7062M chip on board.

Like I say, just a small clarification.
