| Hi, I am planning on using Hobby CNC board with 200oz in motors for Plasma. Assuming normal drive friction and reasonable stepping and leadscrew rate 20lb gantry should be no problem at all. With plasma watch out for destructive electronic noise feedback from plasma cutter itself. Ground with big wires everything. The one thing the HobbyCNC board lacks is opto isolation of the paralell port and Plasma noise getting back into your computer could be seriously smokey. The Hobby CNC controller is a great little microstepping board at an incredible price and it uses one of the most advanced controller / driver chips available from Allegro. Although the motors run a little hot the board works great and it works very well with Mach2. HobbyCNCs 200 oz in steppers are very good bargains also. |
