Can anybody please help on Powermax 1.8deg step motors?

Hello All,

I am having one heck of a time getting my 4axis wire cutter working.

I have a Hobby CNC rev0 4axis control board, Foamlinx machine with origional Powermax 1.8deg step motors, these are not the powermax II motors that you can find all the info on.

My machine came with no wires, I have managed to get a set of 8 wire plugs I just cant find out the exact wire schematic from the servo to the control board.

Can anybody help me on this issue?

Thanks in advance,

Chris McNair

Well first you say step motors, then you say servo.

The wiring of an 8-wire stepper is below. Since your motor may not match the color coding, you'll need a ohm meter to determine what leads go with what coil.

Is the ohmage pasted on the motors you have?

Jay,

Sorry about that, rookie mistake....

I have a ohm meter but I will look at the motor and see if there is any indication of ohmage on the label.

Would it be easier to post a pic of the motor?

Thank you for your response!

Yes post a photo. Have a look at the attached image. This is from the powermax datasheet.

OK, here is a pic of the step motors I have.

I am also attaching a pic of my wire and harness, I am not sure but I am assuming that the pin on the left is #1 Pins 2 and 5 are jumped as well as pins 4 and 7, this is the way I received them.

Thank you again for your help.

Thanks Man!

I am at the point now where I know what pins are what and how its wired, I have checked the control board to the specs the manufacture gave, I have the correct voltage where is needed and have set the pots to the .300-.302

My concern now is that when I meter voltage at the pins with the control board on I can make it see 18+V dependent on how I place the + and -.

Would anybody happen to know what the voltage is supposed to be at the plug? Do I need to keep ground on Pin 6 at all times and check + only? If this is confusing I will do my best to explain better.

Thank you,

Chris McNair

So now I'm confused. What are you trying to do exactly? The Common is V+, each phase on the coils will be grounded or "open" depending on the step sequence. Is it not stepping ... likely cause is the driver is blown ... just like my Z-axis on my HCNCPro last night

Jay,

I will try again, It is very possible there is a issue with the driver, this was a unit bought by a guy a few years back, he never used it because he got his larger unit up and working. I bought it off him with the knowledge there may be a driver issue, I have a second driver that I built, it shows the same voltages as the current driver I am using. Unfortunately they are Rev0 Hobby CNC drivers so they are a little out of date.

I guess I will look at a new driver, you have any good suggestions?

Thanks again,

Chris
