board wont move steppers

hi all! i cant seem to get the hobby cnc board to move my steppers. its the newest board with 200 oz-in motors purchased as a kit. running windows xp and mach 3. when i power on the cnc supply i can hear a "static" noise in the steppers. i've changed the lpt port config all around within xp and played with the settings in mach 3. when i set mach 3 to use the 0378, the software asks for a "emergency reset". if i change the settings to 0278 in mach 3, it will let me load some of the sample g-codes (example: arc cutter, circle cutter, etc.) and the software acts like it is moving the steppers but nothing happens. is there some setup step i am missing?

To fix the reset issue, go to ports and pins >Inputs and change the active low setting for the Estop pin.

thanks, ger21. im gonna try that. i also posted this to the yahoo hcnc board and was suggested to try turbocnc. i did, and unfortunately it didnt work either. after playing around a bit i found that the x stepper doesnt have the static/hiss like the y and z. the y and z drivers are warm to touch but the x driver is cool. so i shut the software off and just had the cnc powered up. i can freely turn the x axis but the y and z are "locked up" so i swapped the x stepper to the y driver
and the x stepper worked but the y did not when plugged into the x driver, if that makes any sense. so maybe i smoked the x driver but wouldnt the y and z still move? i hope i didnt damage it as i followed the instructions, and was under the impression that this new hcnc board had driver chip protection. i also never had the machine powered up unless steppers were plugged into the drives. i dunno i am a total newb to this but i pick up on things fairly quickly but this one has me stumped. it almost seems like a windows issue like the printer port isnt communicating with the hcnc controller board. i appreciate the input

Did you change the address to 378 at bios level on the motherboard

I had similar problems with my setup - not the same board as you - however
1 problem motors just click on loading mach3 - solution change parallel port toc ecp and 378 in bios of your motherboard

2 problem nothing moves - solution was to load the config file for my board into mach3

3 problem 1 motor not moving - solution stripped down motor lubricated bearings reassembled - all motors working
