I got the cap and rectifier, just cant find a transformer and don't want to wait to get one shipped. So i'm daisychaining a couple atx psu's.
My biggest sore spot is the yahoo group for support. You need to get "approved" to join and i've been waiting 3 days now...................
I have a spectralight psu i have questions about whether it would work, but nobody to ask..
if these atx supplies work out, maybe we can deal on the cap and rec.

Yepper, Yahoo Group sucks! Can't find S@$! about anything in particular! CNCZone has them hands down and RUNNING away!
A few posts back someone posted a place to get and SIZES on the cap. & rec.
This the second board I've built from Hobby, was very pleased with the product and the instructions. My problem is with this "kit"! I felt like I had been blind sided.

Gentlemen,
Welcome to the forum. jhowelb when you purchase a stepper driver or a stepper driver board, I have never heard of getting plans for power supplies. So don't feel disapointed or upset at Dave. When Dave sells a Stepper Driver Board, he doesn't know what the user will intend using it for and for that matter, neither do I.

But, on the forum, if let us how we can help and give us some details about what your are cnc'ing most of us are willing to help.

Do you need to know how to build a power supply? Or is there anything else that you need to know how to do. Just ask.

Ron

Ron,
Two things.
#1 READ the post (Second board from Hobby???)
#2 Don't patronize me, it does not make you look better,

BTW: The first board had every thing but the transformer and case including instructions on assy of the POWER SUPPLY and that was stated on the web page along with recomendations. In the case of the kit there is no such thing.

Please don't talk down to me, I am probly 40 years your senior AND I am not stupid.

I'm always willing to help, just let me know if you need any help. I will go ahead and post a pdf file about power supply design by campbel. It's pretty good. Sometimes others will read this thread and they may also find this document useful.

I truely am sorry upsetting you,

Ron

Well, the PDF did not attach, let me try again

Here is a good schematic for a power supply that I used and it has the sources for the components and even goes into the bleed resistor, which will discharge the capacitor when the control power supply is turned off.

While I'm at it, here is a good tutorial on stepper motors.

My disappointment over this is pretty bitter. I will remember it when it comes time to purchase again.

John,
I'm puzzled! PLEASE PM us with your full name and address as to who you are and we'll look into it.

We have (are) been on vacation since 6PM Wednesday the 23rd as announced on our homepage but came back a day early as our oldest daughter has been involved in a car accident. The group has been working fine as far as we know of as no others report access problems. I'll look into it as best I can.

Dave,
Sorry to hear about your daughter, hope she's o.k.
I was the one having access problems with the group. I managed to work through the problems on my own, but i would still like to access the group.
I get to the welcome page through the link mailed to me, any link i click from there just hangs, as if forever loading.
I've checked appx 25-30 other groups and can access them no problem. I've tried firefox and i.e. no luck.....
???????

Dave, I'm wrting to you here cus it's few and far between that i'm able to access the yahoo group. As a matter of fact i have only been able to access it once in the past 5-6 days.
I'd like to share my experience chaining psu's as well as mail the cap, rec et alia to the member interested in them. Rather than sending them to you, then you to him, i could just mail directly.
Also really wish i could read your answer about my spectralight psu, cuz if i can't use i'm going to put the psu, isa card and steppers up on ebay. I can see the first sentence of your answer, and i've been trying to read the rest for the past 4 hours or so.................

As a very happy owner of the older board - i was wondering if all these new improvements are the result of using a different driver chip to the SLA7062 or is it just improved circuitry surrounding the old drivers?!
