    Do step modes affect torque?

I was wondering if anyone had any info on the affect of step modes on torque with the hobbycnc driver...

From what I have read,"full step" seems to be "hi-tork" mode, with a slight reduction in torque when microstepping.

    The answer is..... both..??

If you look at torque charts for many Oriental 2 phase stepper motors, you will see that when half stepping at low RPMs you actually have more torque than full stepping. The situation changes at higher RPMs. The torque difference is less than 5% in most cases, so maybe the slight penalty of a tiny bit less torque at higher RPM is easy to give up for twice the resolution.

At lower speeds, microstepping will give the best performance due to the absense of resonance. (vibration) If your system don't suffer from resonance, then the full stepping mode will give the most torq.
