| The answer is..... both..?? If you look at torque charts for many Oriental 2 phase stepper motors, you will see that when half stepping at low RPMs you actually have more torque than full stepping. The situation changes at higher RPMs. The torque difference is less than 5% in most cases, so maybe the slight penalty of a tiny bit less torque at higher RPM is easy to give up for twice the resolution. |
