HobbyCNC 4 axis kit w/200oz-in OK kit?

First of all, I dont expect anyone from HobbyCNC to answer my question but if so thats fine.

I am looking to build a CNC foam cutter. The size will probably be about 6' wide and 2-3' high. Does anyone have experience with the HobbyCNC 4 axis kit and 200oz-in motors? Is it a good kit? Are there any other kits I should look at? I have looked around at individual parts but I think the complete kit by HobbyCNC is going to be my best bet since it is an all-included package (minus the box and transformer of course). I am PACE and IPC certified for hand soldering so the construction of the board is not a problem and I can make my own case. So All things being equal between everything else out there, is this kit a good choice?

Hmm... now that I am looking into these in more detail I see they have a special foam cutting board. Is the only difference between the foam kit and the regular kit the fact that the foam board will support the control of a hotwire?? If that is the ONLY difference then it really doesnt matter which one I get because I am going to be controlling the hotwire separately. I am assuming the regular kit is cheaper, I cant check to see because all the foam kits and boards are out of stock right now.

2A for foam 3A for "CNC"
full and half step for foam, 1/2, 1/4, 18, /16 for CNC
to name the big differences.

Have you posted this question on the Yahoo group "CNCFoamcutters"? Lotsa info on BIG foam machines there.

Thanks for the reply, Dave. Are the amp ratings you gave for motor control? Or is the 2A rating on the foam board for a hotwire? I guess thats probably a stupid question but I have never built a CNC.. I have run them, but never made my own. Also, are the regular CNC kits in stock?

I would recomend the HobbyCNC Board, My 1st one was the 3 axis board running the HP LaserJet 100oz steppers, I cut with them at 40ipm with no problem, and now with my new machine I'm building I have his complete CNC kit 4-Axis.

The kits are on sale through 12/23. I built one 3 axis about a year ago and just ordered another. They work well and Dave's support is excellent.

I have been running the 3 axis kit for about 6 months. No problems. The kit is complete and easy to put together. I will buy another when it is time to build a second mill.

I've had pretty good luck with my hobbycnc 3 axis. I don't think I could build one for the price. Dave needs to hurry up and get us a cheap bipolar board now too :-p
