Newbie- Hi there Proxxon help

Afternoon folks

Just joined up today and i hope im in the right area... if not dont blast me too much im Dave

Im into modelling mainly wooden ships and i thought i would branch out into other hobbies and purchased the following to use at home :
I purchased Proxxon Compound table KT 150,for use with a
Proxxon BFB 2000 drill press and find that the KT150 handles are pretty
slack. In the respects that there seems to be a fair bit of backlash
before it engages.

Moving backwards is ok but moving forwards is where the thing
gives most trouble.Using the coarse handle is relatively good no
problem with movement, but find the smaller rotating handles next
to useless. Have i missed some kind of setup option somewhere or is
there a way to fix this mess. Looking forward to some help as this is
all pretty new to me.

Will i be in for some heavy duty mods to get it working smoothly
Have a BFW 40e on the way to match it

I use KT150,BFB2000 and BFW40/E set too - mostly for aluminum milling. KT150 has pretty big backslash - but for manual milling it's not a problem (you should always cut in one direction, then retrieve cutter from material, go back a bit before start position, go to start position (so you always reach the start position from the same directipon), plunge and start next pass). The main reason for backslasch in KT150 are poor "bearings" (i'm not sure if they deserve to be called "bearings") at handles. I saw some mods that used axial ball-bearings but without details - i'm trying to design something (that i can manufacture ).
Don't forget to oil (i use way oil, any high viscosity gear oil should do too) and adjust your table (small screws on sides of table).
Pretty easy "mod" for BFB2000 is a "chip guard" for Z-axis - take a piece of paper and glue it (doublesided tape) on the back of Z-axis holder, then fold it under Z-axis and glue from front on moving piece - best to do when it is down so you see how long the strip should be. Cut excess papar - done.

Gregor , thank you for that reply, its good to know there are other people out there with the same equipment and problems i was begining to think it was just me being too picky with the equipment . Never got to try the equipment before buying it and just went on price and the general feed back. I am really into getting to grips with this problem and want to get this modified somehow. Thanks for any feed back on this or mods that you feel may life easier for a novice

Proxxon World at Tuggerah Business Park is the official Aussie importer, advised on the Germany website as the Proxxon "Export Partner" for Australia.

The Woodworking Machinery people are a grey market importer who bring in odd items from a European dealer with excess old stock. For example, they are selling a version of the glue gun that has not been made since the 1990's and a version of the long neck grinder discontinued over 5 years ago. They say on their website their company has been in business for nearly 20 years, but I checked at ASIC and found out they were deregistered in 2006

Just read your reply, yes i have been checking out the official and now non official websites, always
thought there was something very dodgy about the wms site, prices were always more expensive to
buy her in Melbourne but was cheaper to actually buy via nsw and bring down here. The fact they did
stock odds and ends : never the full range was also a dead give away something was not quite right
there. Glad its all fixed up now.
