You're welcome, this is a dead section, maybe in time I'll post some of my hobby projects here.
And i noticed nobody posts here.
As of lately this is my hobbie. A place where I can sit,
take a breath and relax after a day that moves at light
speed. Chief, Thank you you've done a wonderful job.
It is not only a pleasure, but i also feel blessing to have
a place where i can help, be helped and converse with
my peers.

The hobbies here seem to be models, or at least in some way engineering related. I do not have an engineering background, but I guess my hobby is in some way related. How about computer "modding"? Here's a case I was working on before I became caught up in the crazy world of CNC. Not sure if it really belongs here though!
Wow I want one! What does that cost?Originally posted by kong

kong, why does it say "I'm a dumbass" on the top front of the case? Boo boo?
:edit:
As far as it not belonging here.. it does. It belongs right here by my desk!J/K. In fact, now that you're into CNC, you could go hog wild with that thing.
:/edit:
Paul, that case is made from plexiglas. It's not cheep. But you can machine it, posish it, glue it, and bend it with heat. Very cool stuff. Expensive for a case like that custome built.
I cut my teeth fabbing that stuff back in the early 80s.

Nice comments guys!![]()
Yep, it's plexiglas (cell cast acrylic), I cut it all with a hand router and glued it all myself. It is designed for watercooling, hence the big box above the cd-rom drive which will hold the pump and water. It's what led me into cnc - for the making of copper water-blocks to use instead of your heatsink and fan, to cool the cpu and graphics card, etc. The problem is, now I have my CNC machine, I have lost interest in the case, so it still looks like that and sits in the corner! I'll get back to it someday!
It says I'm a dumbass, because I snapped a drill bit off whilst drilling pilot holes before tapping - the plexi tends to get hot and grabs the drill. It was just a nameplate to cover up the mess, with a title to suit! Thanks for the interest, I have one more thing to show you since you're interested, the power supply, again hand fabricated.
have you guys done any plexiglass on your cnc?
What kind of feed rates, cutter type, rpm did you use?
I've tried with a spiral upcut bit and at different speeds, seems like the first pocket goes fine but i guess the cutter is to hot when it gets to the second one and it just melts and really screws up the plastic.
I've not tried ramping down yet, im going to try that and see how it does, it seems like the melting starts at the plunge and then it just goes downhill from that..
Try increasing your chip load, to help remove some heat with the chips, lots of coolant, and small depth of cut.
When drilling, use 135° deg included angle, instead of the standard 118° deg.

I asked the same a while ago over here, there a couple of good links in that thread.
thanks guys, lots of good info in that thread
Where are all the hobbyists? Right now there are some very cool parts being designed and machined. Come on out and show yur craft!
Best,

very impressiv, kong. I especially like your PS! Customization like that is what really sets some people apart in the PC modding world.
As you may guess from my avatar, I watercool as well. And just like you, once I got into CNC, the 'puter has become a neglected red-headed step child! I'll post pics when I get around to it.
My name is Electric Nachos. Sorry to impose, but I am the ocean.
