Hi Gents, I am trying to find out about this type of engine. There is a lot of talk about it in the late '60, but I can not find any picture. Does anyone have a pictures or diagrams on it? Thanks, CGB |

CGB, I can remember seeing an article on that engine in a book about machines that I checked out from my local library some 25 years ago. The article did have pics and a small riteup about the eng., they said that it had a high hp to weight ratio, but it wasnt very "throttlable" and was very noisy. Since then I have been looking for additional information about it and have searched the web and the librarys but havent found anything. One place to start would be the Mallory (batteries, electronics) company, because I think I remember reading that they owned it. Im sure that it is proprietary information, but if its been around that long, the information is in public domain. I sure would be interested in any info you might want to share on it. Seems like it would make a perfect compact diesel engine. |

| Do a Google search on 'Rotary valve engines' and you will find lots of information. The following link lists about eight types. http://www.dself.dsl.pipex.com/MUSEU...aryValveIC.htm CarveOne

Carveone, Thanks for the info on the rotary valved engines, it did not include the mallory rotary which I think is what CGB was talking about. This was an engine with a rotor inside a stator that had its axis eccentric to the stator with 10 or 12 radially sliding vanes - real simple, but very powerful. Im kinda curious as to why I cant find anything about it on the web |

I have seen this engine in a book called "How things Work" I have this book at home, there is a picture of it and a story on it. Very interesting engine I think it did 20,000 rpm and weighed 85 lbs. It was said to be really loud. I'll see about posting it for you. Matt |

| Hi CGB I built a vane rotary motor (Small) about 35years ago I was just a kid then & use to play with these kind of things they were my toys & had lots of junk to build things with I built it from a old 1927 truck engine oil pump & it had a eccentric chamber with a sliding vane which was spring loaded pushing the vanes out to the wall of the chamber I just added a sparkplug Etc & a ajustable needle valve for the fuel I ran it with a oil/gas mix but could not run it for very long as it would get to hot but was a fun toy about 2.5" dia

If U want some pix of the Mallory Rotary engine see: Aviation Week & Space Technology Magazine March 13, 1967 pg 55-56 Hope this is helpful. If you are into these engines you might also like the "turbine rotary" done by Nickola Tesla. There are a couple of patents of his you can study. regards....... |
