Newbie- My first metal part

Not sure if this is the 'right' place, but... Here is a picture of my first metal part (in brass). Not too impressive compared to what I've seen here...

A gear with a diameter of 50mm cut out of a 1mm brass sheet on a Sherline mill. Used a 2mm endmill and sanded it lightly after milling to remove burrs.

Cutted with about half spindle speed and feed of 60 mm/min. Don't dare to go faster as I have no cooling.

If you machined that from scratch as your 1st metal part, you either have LOTS of experience with non-metal parts, or you are on your way to machinist stardom, or both !!

Very nice work! It's a nice feeling when you hold something and think "he, I made that,not a lot of folk oculd have done that".

How did you hold it down during the machining please?

Looks good, it's a sprocket, not a gear though, whats it for?

Do people use coolant cutting brass? I don't know. I usually don't use coolant myself in materials softer than steel. Anyhow, your part looks great to me. Keep up the good work!
