[For this, a 3-axis mill or router should work fine. You can't have any undercuts in your vacuum-forming model anyway, and a 3-axis mill will not produce any, due to its configuration. Figure out the largest part you'll need to make and plan the axis travels accordingly, realizing that you'll need a little extra to reach the edges of your part with a tool.]

    Question Cost?

How much do you want to (need to, can you) spend?
Any job bigger than a big house brick?

Have a look at the JGRO plans, or even the Joe2006 plans, should be more than enough for what you need. The smaller you can make a machine the easier and cheaper it will be, at least for a first machine. You already have a purpose for it so you would probably be best off catering for that, rather than build a machine that will do everything.

The JGRO and Joe2006 are free downloads from this site and there are heaps of open source stepper drivers around, it will take a little research on your part but well worth it.

    Good Luck !!

Cool thanks for the input was going to use wood or foam to make about 10th scale rc car molds. Any suggestion on premade machines I can buy. Nothing big really since its can be done on a desk if needed. I would say no bigger than 2 x 2 feet square space to work with. I think in this part of my business Id better buy this machine rather than make it unless its easy to make?
